First, let me say that I am not a professional movie critic and the writers and makers of Fireproof, by and large, are not professionals either. Now on to the movie. Bottom line- go see the movie. There are parts of the movie and the plot that are a bit contrived and wooden. Most of the actors should not put their resume into the next Oscar class. However, I believe that Kirk Cameron as Capt. Caleb Holt, Erin Bethea as Catherine Holt, and Ken Bevel as Lt. Michael Simmons all did a credible job. There are parts that are preachy and I believe could have had greater impact with a little better script. However, the underlying theme and the issues that are dealt with are the real stuff of much marriage discord. I especially think men ought to see this movie. It hits the issues men are dealing with in both their personal lives and their affect on marriage square in the face. I saw this with my wife and it was well worth the investment. We had a great time and some good discussion. It also made us appreciate what we have in each other.
