Because we have not, yet, "attained" to the unity and fullness Paul refers to, and I believe, prophetically points to, we still NEED apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers. But I am appalled each time I see some new ministry claiming apostolic authority or anointing. The influence of the original apostles through scripture (though they were not the only ones to write New Testament scripture) does not answer questions I have about the need for direct apostolic ministry in the body of Christ today. Haven't you ever wished that Paul would suddenly show up and set things straight? But the heavily institutionalized church of today would treat him worse than the Romans did. Is there an apostolic "anointing" (as opposed to an actual apostolic presence)? If so, I cannot verify it in scripture, and definitely have not witnessed it.

And, Wayne, if there is to be a restoration of the apostolic ministry to the body, I don't think we will have to guess whether or not it is real. Let me know if one shows up in Washington. We NEED some apostolic leadership!
